Fishmonger (Al Hoot) sells fresh and frozen seafood, shrimp, salmon, fresh fish, shellfish, crab and lobster, cleaned by hand and delivered across Egypt. Instead of renting a platform, we built the whole thing: the store customers order from and the panel the team runs it from.
The context
Seafood is sold by weight, stock moves every day, and many customers in Egypt pay through Fawry, InstaPay, Vodafone Cash, or cash on delivery rather than a card.
The problem
Hosted platforms made the basics awkward: weight-based products, local payments that need manual confirmation, delivery by governorate, and order updates on WhatsApp. The team also needed one place to see orders, stock, and customers.
What we did
We built a custom store on React and Supabase. Customers make an account, order by weight, choose their governorate, and pay with Fawry, InstaPay, Vodafone Cash, or cash on delivery. Behind it is an admin for products, stock, orders, customers, reviews, promo codes, and sales reports.
Key decisions
- 01
Custom over platform
Weight-based pricing and local payment flows were simpler to build properly than to bend a hosted platform around.
- 02
Payments people actually use
Fawry reference numbers, InstaPay, Vodafone Cash, and cash on delivery, each with its own confirmation step.
- 03
A back office, not just a shop
Orders, stock, customer accounts, review moderation, printable invoices, and exportable reports in one admin.
Under the hood
React front end; Supabase for the database, sign-in, and storage; role-based admin access; WhatsApp order notifications; printable invoices; and CSV/Excel export for reporting.
The result
Fishmonger runs its online sales and its back office on one system it owns, with every feature shaped around how seafood is actually sold in Egypt.
